Introduction

This privacy policy explains how Gringo, published by JULIEN FOLLIOT, collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use the app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and the security of your data, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable French law.

Gringo is a mobile app for learning Brazilian Portuguese through short video clips from Brazilian creators. It provides no service other than language learning.

Information we collect

A session. Gringo opens on an anonymous session created with Firebase Authentication: a random identifier, with no name, email or password. It is what keeps your words and settings yours between launches.

An account, if you create one. You can link your session to an email address and password, or sign in with Apple or Google. We then store the email address (or the identifier Apple or Google gives us). Your password is handled by Firebase and never visible to us.

Your learning data. The words you keep, the clips you save, your review progress, your daily goal and reminder settings, and the answers you give during the first-run questionnaire (why you learn, your level, your interests, how much time you have). All of it is attached to your Gringo identifier.

Reports. Any clip can be reported from the app. A report records the clip's identifier and the reason you chose.

Purchase information. If you subscribe, the payment is processed by Apple. Through RevenueCat, our subscription service, we receive the product you bought, its dates and its status. We never collect or store any payment details.

Usage and crash information. How the app is used — screens viewed, actions taken, whether the onboarding is completed, whether a purchase happens — measured with PostHog. When the app fails, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a report with technical details about the device and the failure.

Gringo uses no advertising identifier, no advertising tracker, and collects no location data.
